Hang Christmas Garland In A Large Entryway

Hang Christmas Garland in a Large Entryway

Hanging Christmas garland in a large entryway can help create a cheerful holiday ambiance from the moment your guests walk through your door. The holiday decorations will likely cause the large entryway to feel warm and welcome. It's important, however, to choose garland that complements your decor and hang it in a manner that doesn't overpower the rest of your decor.

Instructions

1. Determine what color and type of garland you want to use to decorate your entryway. A formal foyer that opens to an elegant parlor or living room should be decorated in a way that complements the connecting room. Choose from beaded garland, tinsel, pre-lit, popcorn, candy or plastic garland.

2. Choose the best place to hang and drape your garland. This may be over the doorway, a mirror, a picture, wrapped around an indoor tree, draped on a bench or table.

3. Set up your ladder or step-stool, climb up and arrange the garland. You can wrap it around thumbtacks, nails or hooks if need be.

4. Spruce up the garland by entwining a string of mini-lights (if you don't opt for the pre-lit kind) or tying festive bows or bells around the garland. Attach mistletoe to the garland over doorways with a simple bow, as well.

Tips Warnings

If you're using small nails or hooks to secure the garland, consider leaving them in place if they aren't noticeable and you'll be hanging garland again next year. If you must remove them, plain white toothpaste can patch the small holes if you have white walls.

Use matching or complementing garland to decorate a fireplace or staircase that is within viewing distance of the entryway to create a seamless feel to the decorations.

Using edible garlands--such as those made of popcorn, lollipops or other candy--may not make it until Christmas if they're within reach. But they will most likely be fun to create, especially with children.
