Diy Twin Bed Frames

DIY Twin Bed Frames

The trouble with twin beds is the frames often cost much more than you want to spend on furniture your child is going to outgrow in just a few years. However, you can build a sturdy twin bed in an afternoon or overnight if you plan to paint it. This project is well within the reach of even beginner do-it-yourselfers and appropriate for recruiting children for help once you've finished cutting the lumber to specifications.

Instructions

1. Cut two of the pine planks to 75 inches long using the power saw. Cut the third plank into two pieces, each 37 inches in length.

2. Sand all faces of lumber using rough-grit sandpaper.

3. Arrange one short plank and one long plank into an L-shape with the end of the short plank abutting the inside face of the long plank. Attach the planks using two L-braces, each set 1 1/2 inches from either end of the planks. Attach the braces with their matching screws, using the power drill to drive them in.

4. Repeat Step 3 to build a second L-shape using the remaining two planks.

5. Assemble the two L-shapes into a rectangular frame. Attach the two open corners using two L-braces each, installed as described in Step 3.

6. Set the plywood sheet on top of the rectangular frame. Connect with one wood screw at each corner and one wood screw at the midpoint of each edge. Inexperienced woodworkers may want to pre-drill holes for the screws to avoid splitting the wood.

7. Apply a coat of paint to the visible faces of the planks and the edge of the plywood, if desired. Allow to dry before installing the finished bed frame. Because the top of the plywood will be covered with a mattress, it's not necessary to paint it.

Tips Warnings

Add a fun, decorative aspect to your bed frame by applying decals and stickers to the sides.
