Lifting drywall is a necessary step when you are finishing a room. It's how you get the drywall into place to be secured to the wall. There are a few ways to lift drywall so it stays in place without bending or being stressed. Drywall can be brittle and it damages easily if it comes in contact with a sharp corner or heavy, blunt object.
Instructions
1. Grasp the corner of a drywall sheet and slide it so the corner is positioned one quarter of the way off the stack.
2. Grab the drywall sheet about a foot down from the corner along the edge, then pull and slide the drywall so the entire edge hangs off the side of the stack of drywall.
3. Place one hand on the top edge of the drywall sheet (the edge that is now about a quarter of the way down the stack) in the center of the sheet, then grasp the other edge with your other hand, also in the center.
4. Carefully tilt the drywall sheet toward you by pressing down slightly on the lower edge and pulling up on the top edge, while bending your knees. Lift the sheet from the stack.
5. Move the sheet into the upright position and lean it against your side as you carry it to the wall.
6. Place the edge of the drywall sheet on the ground in front of the wall frame, then push the sheet up and into position as you move forward toward the wall.
