If possible, measure the locker to determine items that fit beforehand.
Decorating a player's locker before a big game gives him inspiration before he hits the court. Whether you're part of a spirit or cheer squad, or you just want to surprise a good friend, think of items that are easily placed inside of lockers and don't require additional components such as a power source.
Inspirational Quotes
Write out an inspirational basketball quote on paper or small poster board and place it in his locker. If he has a favorite player, try to find a quote attributed to that person. For example, basketball legend Larry Bird once said: A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals. Michael Jordan was once quoted saying: You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them. Placing a quote inside his locker can become a ritual before every game. He'll have something to look forward to before he gets dressed for the game each time.
Game Specific Posters
Create a poster that is specific to the upcoming game. The poster should include cheer or spirit phrases to encourage the player to beat the opponent. For example, if your girl's basketball team is playing a school named Springfield High School, the poster might read, Stomp on Springfield! or, Score, Score, Score 'til Springfield's on the Floor! To personalize the poster, add the player's last name and number to it.
Team History
If your basketball team has a tradition of winning, use that as a basis for a poster. For example, if your team has won division and state championships, create a mini poster that details the year of each championship alongside the name of the title. Use school colors and similar colors found on championship banners. For the last space on the poster, place the current year, making the statement that it is a foregone conclusion that your team will be victorious.
Calendar
A poster and calendar combination is functional beyond providing spirit or cheer to the player. Depending on the size of the poster, the calendar can have a tear-away section where each month is torn and discarded as it passes, or all the months of the season can be placed on the calendar. Place the season schedule in the appropriate boxes of the calendar. This allows the player to write in other important information, such as practice schedules or other team obligations. Picture ideas include a team photo or a collage of team members in action on the court in practice or in games.
