Opalescence Tooth Whitening Instructions

Opalescence is a tooth bleaching/whitening kit that purports to whiten teeth for years by using carbamide peroxide. Carbamide peroxide works to penetrate and whiten teeth like hydrogen peroxide, but it works more slowly and allows for whiter, brighter teeth.

Dental Trays

Because Opalescence is an in-office whitening system, the first step in whitening with the Opalescence tooth whitening system is to have a set of dental trays made to fit your teeth. Your dentist will get impressions of your teeth so the whitening trays will fit perfectly in your mouth.

Preparation

Brush your teeth prior to using the gel trays by using a tooth-whitening product such as Rembrandt or Colgate White and using a medium toothbrush. Brush for 3 minutes or more to remove plaque buildup.Use a paper towel or soft cloth to dry teeth before using the Opalescence product.

Application

Put the Opalescence gel in the bottom and top trays in the front section that will cover the front of your teeth. Add about a 1/4 of a tube of product. Do not overload the trays with the Opalescence gel. No gel should come out of the edges. Slide the trays onto the upper and then lower teeth. Use a cotton swab or paper towel to remove excess product. Leave on overnight for best results. In the morning, remove, rinse and brush.

Recommendations

Use the whitening trays nightly until maximum whiteness has been achieved (up to 2 months). Use as needed for maintenance a few times per week to keep your teeth white. Rinse trays after each use. Stay away from soda, coffee or foods that might stain your teeth to keep them their brightest.
