Get Rid Of An Asthma Cough

Coughing is a common symptom of asthma and can be worse at night than during the day. Asthma coughs are often dry-sounding and do not produce phlegm. There are several ways to control and get rid of an asthma cough and soothe irritated airways.

Instructions

1. Vacuum your home frequently, especially the bedrooms, to reduce the amount of allergens in the air. Dust and other irritants can increase asthma symptoms, including coughing.

2. Have an updated prescription for an inhaler and medication filled and available at all times. Some people who have a chronic cough due to asthma can control their symptoms with inhaled medicine that reduces inflammation of the bronchial tubes. Use the inhaler as directed by your doctor.

3. Speak to your doctor about the possibility of drinking a nightly cup of herbal tea to get rid of your asthma-induced cough. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) suggests that asthma suffers may find relief from their symptoms through the use of red clover, feverfew and gingko biloba (see Resources). All of these herbs can be made into teas.

4. Drink your tea (herbal or regular) with honey to soothe an irritated throat that may add to your coughing.
