Fruits and Vegetables
Cherries---known for their high vitamin C content---are one of the most effective gout remedies. Drinking a glass of cherry juice daily or having about a dozen cherries per day can help remove the uric acid deposits that cause gout. Citrus fruits, Indian gooseberry and such vegetables as tomatoes and green pepper---all rich in vitamin C---can also provide relief. The phosphorus and similar minerals in bananas are known to react with the irritant uric acid deposits and help flush them out of the system.
Other Useful Foods
Alfalfa is a rich source of minerals that help bind with uric acid and flush it out of the system. You can also extract half a cup of the juice from French beans and drink it regularly for months to help alleviate gout inflammation and aches. According to another well-known natural remedy, drink a mixture of 2 tbsp. of organic apple-cider vinegar and honey, mixed in water, twice a day for long-term relief of symptoms.
Other Natural Modes of Treatment
Boil a mixture of 1 tsp. of pepper and 1 cup each of vinegar and water, and gently rub the painful, gout-affected area with the mixture. Leave it undisturbed for two hours. Alternatively, make a paste of equal parts ground mustard and whole-wheat powder mixed with water, apply it on the gout-affected area, and leave on overnight. Another remedy involves adding two cups of Epsom salts or one-third a cup of ground ginger in a bucket of warm water and immersing your feet in it until the water becomes cold. You can also take a warm flannel cloth dipped in castor oil and place it on the gout-affected zone. Place a plastic cover over the cloth and lay heating pads on top. Finally, the simple application of ice cubes on the affected areas can temporarily lessen pain intensity.
