Avoid an ill-fitting suit by finding your child's proper measurements.
When selecting a suit for your child, it is important to measure him in advance of your purchase to ensure proper fit, especially when ordering from a website. Having a suit that fits your child well will help him look his best and feel as comfortable as possible for a special occasion.
Instructions
Suit Jacket
1. Place the measuring tape at the top of the child's shoulder, and bring it down to about an inch past his wrist. Read the measure to determine his sleeve measurement. Write your measurements down.
2. Wrap the tape measure securely around his chest, just below his armpits, and record the number on the tape where it crosses over itself for the child's chest measurements.
3. Obtain the child's standard jacket length measurement by placing one end of the tape measure at the nape of his neck and bringing the other end straight down his back to his hips or the top of his buttocks, and record the measurement. Bring the tape down to the back of his knees if you are measuring for a jacket with tails.
Suit Pants
4. Find the child's true waist measurement by wrapping the tape measure around his trunk at his belly button. Keep the tape level and record the measurement where it crosses over itself.
5. Determine his outer leg measurement by placing the end of the measuring tape at the child's waist, even with his belly button, not his hips, and bringing it down to approximately an inch past the ankle bone before recording the measurement.
6. Place the end of the tape measure just below the child's crotch and bring it straight down to an inch below his ankle bone on the inside of the leg to record his inner leg measurement.
7. Measure the child's hip by wrapping the measure around the largest part of his buttocks. Note the measurement where the tape meets itself.
