Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan dip switch location
Hi all, I need to change the dip switches for a Hampton Bay cieling fan in our apartment. Unfortunately, this is a rental, we didn't install the fan and don't have any manuals. I've read that the dip switches are probably located in the canopy piece which abuts the ceiling. Examining that, I see a plastic ring at the top, which twists to remove, revealing four screws. I'm afraid to unscrew those for fear the fan may come crashing down. Can someone tell me if I'm on the right track to get to the switches? Can I safely remove the screws? After removing the ring, 2 of the 4 screws come out, the other 2 have a key way, so locate them loosen and twist the housing to remove. this will allow you to keep a grip on the fan. On the ceiling mount,there will be a hook. this slides into one of the screw holes to hold the fan for wireing.Leaving both hands free. Disconnect the power at the breaker first. so as not to get hurt or damage the electronics. Hi, Thanks very much for the help! I finally got some free time to check this out. I was able to remove the housing like you instructed, but I can't for the life of me find any dip switches on the assembly inside it. Where are they exactly? Thanks, - Steve Unfortunately Hampton Bay offers no online literature. I have looked in the past and just looked again. I do know that sometimes the dip switches can sometimes be located in the light kit assy, just above the lamp portion. If they are not in the wireing section at the top, this is the next best place to look. Your only other option is to call Home Depot. I have found the dip switches in different areas, and one is on the top of the motor housing itself about halfway across. I don't want this to sound funny, but are you sure the fan is remote controlled? Hi, Yes, we have a remote control that we use. The problem is that one of our neighbors has the same model, with the same remote control, and the same dip switch setting. That's why I want to change them. This is really sounding more and more like I have to dismantle the whole fan to find them! - Steve If there is a bell-shaped housing up at the ceiling, make sure you lower it completely to get complete access to what is underneath it. If there is a white box there (the remote receiver), then the dip switches will be on that. If you can get the model number off the fan, you can visit Home Depot and find the installation instructions there (if they still carry that model). Hampton Bay is Home Depot's house brand. Otherwise, get Hampton Bay's customer service line and call them. I have two Hampton Bay ceiling fans. The factory defaults settings caused conflicts when trying to operate the units from the remote control. It was easy to find the dip switch in the remote control. It is in the battery compartment. However, I could not find any documentation showing me where the dip switch is on the ceiling unit. In the model that I have (UC7078T), the RF receiver on the ceiling fan is in the lower most bell housing. On this model, three lights are mounted to this lowest bell housing. Don't worry about the lights. There are 3 small screws to remove the bell housing from the main unit. When you remove it, there is an electrical cable that you need to unplug to separate it from the main unit. Once the lower piece (with the lights) is detached, you can see the RF receiver inside the bell housing that you detached. Turn it over in your hand and the RF receiver assembly will fall out in your hand. You will find the dip switch on the bottom of the receiver. I changed mine and now the two fans operate independently. Hope this helps someone. There are four slots in the top motor housing of my Hampton Bay ceiling fan. The DIP switch is just inside of one. I used a ladder, a headlight, a mirror and a chopstick (wood with electric) to flip just one of them. Good luck. Welcome to the forum.
