Murray riding mower belt replacement

I have a Murray Widebody LT lawnmower. I can't get the blade drive belt on. The belt that was on it was a 37X75 and it was too big and kept comming off. So I looked on the mower and it said I needed a 37X88 belt. I couldn't stretch it onto the pulley's. It was way too short. Now I dont know what to do. I really need to get my lawn mowed!! I'm not even sure put the belt on the pulleys. maybe a diagram would help. I really appreciate any help. The 37x88 is two inches shorter than the 37x75, shich is why you couldn't get it on. Although you didn't provide a model number of the unit, it's safe to assume that you need to buy the 37x75 and install it. If you post back with the model number, I can confirm the correct part number you will need. model number is 42598X92A. It had a 37x75 on it, but it is too long. Is there a possibility that the belt could have gotten stretched? Maybe that is why it is so big. Also I found out the deck has be taken off before. Is it possible that it got put back on to far from the front pulley? Is there a diagram somewhere that will show me this? Murray.com shows nothing for this model. Hello Tahoemama! The blet goes on like this, from sitting on the mower looking down: From the engine pulley to the blade pulley on the left side, across the back of the deck to the blade pulley on the right side, then towards the middle of the deck to the idler pulley and back to the engine. You're machine does in fact call for a 37x88. Using this belt and cheese's instructions, you should be good to go. Remember, the sole idler pulley is a backside pulley, whereas the flat part of the belt will be in contact with this pulley to be correct. Something that could throw you off is if the deck hanger brackets are broken or bent. If not, then cheese's instructions alone will be all that is necessary to get you up. By the way, any time a belt streches, it's broke. What happens is that the V-groove wears and subsequently the belt sits further into the pulley, giving the impression it is longer. I got it fixed, Thanks! The problem was with the 37x88 belt I orginally bought. I got it at walmart, where the mower was purchased, and the label on the belt said for Murray lawn tractors. But it wouldn't fit. I went to a store in town that sells only lawn mowers and parts and got a 37x88 belt that fit to perfection. I guess I learned my lesson about aftermarket parts. i have a murray riding mower 42 in cut , 17.5hp briggs and stranton engine, doesnt have a model number on the unit, but the engine does have model #, how do i get the model number for the mower thanks for any help i need A wireing diagram for a late 70s murray sabre i messed up all the beltss... Welcome tractor77. You've replied in an old thread that is a couple years old. For future reference, I recommend starting your own new thread for any issues you may have unrelated to the thread you're looking at. As for your needs, you will likely have alot of difficulty in finding what you need. Murray went backrupt a couple years back and Briggs Stratton bought the company but does not provide any support for equipment older than the 1998 model year. Your best bet would be to find a local established Murray dealer in your area and pick their brains. I'm not sure what you need based on your post. You state you need a wiring diagram but then reference the belt system, which the two are unrelated. It sound like you have belt issues and in which case you'll want a belt routing schematic. If, indeed, you also have wiring circuit issues then you'll want to ask about a wiring schematic when you find that local Murray dealer. Any time you need help, whether it be here or at your local dealer, you should always provide any and all ID numbers from both the chassis and the engine. If you need parts, a wiring diagram, a parts diagram, etc. one of the best sites I've found on the internet is the following: http://www.milacalawn.com/parts.asp I can find almost anything for my small engine needs. I don't do a lot, but what tinkering I do do, I find help here. I myself am trying to find a model number on a 40 Murray Widebody with a 12.5 BS I/C. The engine has a model number on it, dates it back to '96. For the life of me I can't find a model number on the mower that works. the only thing I've found is 44x6457. But that doesn't seem to jive with model numbers of Murray lawn tractors that I've found on the internet.
