How to fix a microfiber sofa tear

fix a microfiber sofa tear

Hello, Usually I do get good advise around here... My son dropped a knife on the microfiber sofa cusion and that made a tear around 1/2 inch long. Very visible... I searched the forums and found exactly two related posts: one advises to try an iron-on patch but the person was not sure that there is a patch for microfiber. Another post advises to use super-glue... now I am not sure that a good idea. So I was wondering maybe some one one has a better idea on fix the tear? Thanks in advance, Alex. There's really no way to fix a tear except by having it recovered. You can iron on a patch or you can hand sew it using a ladder stitch. Neither will look perfect or fix it permanently. Thanks! Iron patch would work for me. Can you tell if the patch exists for microfiber (not for regular fabric or I can use regular on a microfiber) and where I can buy it? TIA, Alex I'm not sure if they have patches made specifically for one type of fabric. What you want to do is use the lowest heat setting recommended and if the instructions say you can use it dry, then do that or use the lowest steam setting recommended (usually iron on products need steam). If the cover comes off the cushion, turn it inside out and put it on the backside. Also, put a piece of cloth over the patch and only iron on the cloth and don't touch the microfiber. This will give some protection. Oh, and don't use the whole piece of patch, maybe an inch or two size piece, enough to cover the rip, then you can just use the tip of the iron. I'm afraid I don't know much about or use patches as a rule but this is how I would go about it. Be aware that too hot and too much steam may shrink microfiber. I've seen them sold at supermarkets, Walmart, Kmart and fabric stores like Joann's or Hancock's. Ok, thanks. I will give it a try Hello, I am back with an update. I can get a cusion cover replacement for close to $100...could be slightly different color though... I tried permanent fabric adhesive sold at Joannefabric but it did not work - did not bond to the microfiber. I came across MxBon 105 professional strength adhesive and I was wondering if anyone can say anything good about it? Thanks in advance, Alex
