Make Your Own Petroleumfree Vapor Rub

Soothe congestion naturally with a petroleum-free vapor rub.

It's hard to find quality vapor rubs for congestion relief that don't contain harmful chemicals. Petroleum-based products block pores, contribute to premature aging of the skin and cause skin irritation. This vapor rub is made by melting natural ingredients of beeswax and grapeseed oil, producing a smooth spreadable balm. The lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary essential oils help break up nasal and sinus congestion. The grapeseed oil also has the added benefits of promoting healthy regeneration of skin cells, preventing the appearance of wrinkles and acts as a powerful moisturizer.

Instructions

1. Sterilize the jar and lid by cleaning it in the dishwasher on sterilize mode. You can also sterilize the jar by boiling it in water for 10 minutes. Allow the jar to cool before use.

2. Beeswax is produced in the hive by worker bees.

Hold the block of beeswax in one hand and carefully shave off pieces. Fill the jar approximately one-third full of wax.

3. Add grapeseed oil into the jar. Leave half an inch of empty space on top.

4. You can also heat the wax and oil in a pan on the stove.

Place the jar in the microwave for 15 seconds. Use a potholder to hold the jar while checking to see if the wax is melting and swirling the mixture gently.

5. Continue to microwave the oil and wax for 15 second intervals, swirling between sets until the wax is completely melted.

6. Use a pot holder to remove the jar from the microwave and place it on a heat-resistant surface. Cut open the vitamin E capsules and squeeze the contents of the capsule into the oil mixture. The vitamin E will act as a mild preservative.

7. Add eight to 10 drops each of lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary essential oils.

8. Screw the lid on the jar and set it in a secure place. The oil mixture will harden to a spreadable balm overnight.
