Homemade Incense Holder

Incense sticks are very popular for use in meditation, purification of a space or simply to cover up bad odors. The downside of stick incense is the light fluffy ash that is left behind after burning. Even if you use wooden tray burners, or upright ceramic or metal burners, the ash drifts easily on even the slightest draft, and still ends up all over the place. You can eliminate the mess from burning your stick incense and contribute to recycling efforts at the same time by making your own incense burner out of a plastic water bottle and a favorite printed picture or design.

Instructions

1. Choose a smooth-sided plastic water bottle that is several inches taller than your incense sticks, and that has an opening slightly smaller than your keychain ring.

2. Wash the plastic bottle and allow it to dry thoroughly.

3. Wrap your design around the middle of the bottle, and cover the design completely with strips of clear packing tape.

4. Use the scissors to snip a ½-inch hole, about halfway up the side of the bottle, in an area that will not affect the design.

5. Pour the sand into the bottle.

6. Open the split in the keychain ring and insert the wooden end of the incense stick.

7. Light the other end of the stick and lower it into the bottle, point down, so that it is suspended inside the bottle from the keychain ring.
