Do An Oil Massage For A Kapha Ayurveda Mindbody Type

Kaphas are one of the three mind-body types in Ayurveda, which date back 5,000 years to India. Indians and non-Indians alike practice this healing science around the world.Kapha individuals tend to be full, round and in many cases, overweight. Slow-moving, deliberate in action and speech, Kaphas are the Earth Mother archetypes. Averse to exercise, Kaphas may risk hypertension and diabetes if they become significantly overweight. Performing an oil massage in Ayurveda is recommended to ground Vata, or movement in the mind and help restore equilibrium.

Instructions

1. Begin by preparing your massage oil. Combine two tablespoons of corn, canola, or sunflower seed oil in a small pan and heat. Allow it to cool slightly and add another tablespoon of sesame or almond oil. Blend the oils together.

2. Step into the shower and rinse off. Cleanse the skin with a mild soap such as liquid castile soap. Rinse off and pat dry.

3. Pour a small amount of oil into your hand and apply it to yourfeet, legs, chest and arms and neck. Repeat for the back side of your body. Do not use it on your face as these oils are too heavy.

4. Wear a warm robe as you sit and sip warm Kapha-pacifying teas made from bancha, burdock, kukicha, wintergreen or yerba mate.Rest for at least 10 minutes. Do not lie down as you will easily drop off to sleep.

5. Shower off the excess oil. Rinse thoroughly. Pat dry. Moisturize and apply sunscreen as needed.
