These organizations offer specialized classes and certification programs which are taught by professionals with extensive experience in chiropractic billing. In many cases, the individual courses are eligible for continuing education credits (CEUs). Make sure the training program includes formal courses in CPT and ICD coding.
2. Meet with the billing managers from various local chiropractic offices. Inquire about billing procedures and practices and ask for one-on-one training, if possible. Since billing practices vary from office to office, it would be wise to speak with multiple billing managers in order to get a broader idea of how reimbursements are processed.
3. Network with established practices and peer colleagues through online social networks to learn about available software packages and automated processes. Be sure to ask for feedback regarding specific packages, including the pros and cons with each system.
4. Make sure the software vendor you are considering has a dedicated trainer on-staff before implementing an automatic billing system into your practice. It is important to have the trainer conduct extensive hands-on training with staff in advance of system implementation. Staff should be given plenty of time to become comfortable with the system and ask any questions they may have about features and functions.
5. Attend national seminars on maximizing reimbursements and minimizing risks. Many national organizations as well as private companies offer periodic training seminars targeted towards improving revenue collection for chiropractic practices.
