Hydrocephalus is a condition wherein the brain swells within the skull. In many cases the brain swells within the closed cranium causing brain damage. This damage can result in learning disabilities, seizures, loss of motor function and even reduced lifespan. The symptoms and signs of heat stroke in somebody with hydrocephaly are identical to those of other people. However, the condition does make somebody with hydrocephaly more vulnerable to serious damage due to heat stroke. Extra vigilance and rapid response is essential.
Environmental Signs
When outdoors in high temperatures, especially direct sunlight and conditions of high humidity, there is a heightened risk of heat stroke. It doesn't have to be uncomfortably hot or even sunny for somebody to develop heat stroke.
Behavioral Signs
People developing heat stroke may show signs of confusion and disorientation. They might experience mood swings and even hallucinations. Because some of these symptoms are shared with hydrocephaly itself, relying solely on behavioral symptoms can be misleading.
Physical Signs
Heat stroke is caused by heightened body temperature therefore, a fever is a reliable sign of heat stroke. Other physical symptoms include weak or arrhythmic pulse, nausea and vomiting. Victims of heat stroke develop reddening skin and stop sweating even when conditions would call for sweat. People in advanced stages of heat stroke can have seizures or fall into a coma.
