If you have received a copy of your certificate of naturalization, only to discover that the listed date of birth is incorrect, it can be a frustrating experience. There is very little information on what to do in case of an error, and it can be difficult and time-consuming trying to make a small change. However, it is something that has to be completed, and as quickly as possible. If the error is not addressed or changed, it can cause problems in regard to employment, taxes and obtaining an identification card and driver's license.
Instructions
1. Call the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services national customer service center at 800-375-5283. If it's an obvious typo on the certificate, the agency may be able to fix it for you over the phone. If it is unable to fix it for you over the phone, it will be noted in your file that there is a discrepancy about the date of birth.
2. If the date of birth on your certificate of naturalization is incorrect and unable to be fixed over the telephone, send a letter to USCIS. In the letter, state that the date of birth on your certificate of naturalization is incorrect and what your correct date of birth is. Enclose proof, such as a birth certificate, that the date is indeed your true date of birth.

Although not required, it is strongly recommended you send the letter certified so you can prove that you sent the information.
3. Follow up. If you have mailed a letter regarding the wrong date of birth on your certificate of naturalization and have not received a response within 21 business days, call the USCIS at 800-375-5283. Verify that the agency has received your letter and that it has all of the information they need. If USCIS needs any additional information, provide it.
4. If you have tried to change your date of birth on a certificate of naturalization and are unable to do so by yourself, consult with immigration counsel or attorney. In some cases, the only way to change the date of birth on a certificate of naturalization is to get a judge to order the change. In these cases it is advised to either have, or at the very least consult with, an attorney or law office that handles immigration law.
