Use Essential Oils For Mouthwash

If you prefer not to use a commercial mouthwash, and want to go with something natural and refreshing, essential oil-based mouthwashes are ideal. There are a variety of different formulas that you can create to rinse your mouth. Here are the steps to make three of them.

Instructions

Use Essential Oils to Make Refreshing Mouthwash

1. Choose 100 percent pure essential oils-only, as they offer healthful benefits. The label will state "100 percent pure." You can find them at health food stores and online. Don’t use synthetic oils--they do not have the same benefits.

2. Choose which formula you prefer based on what you like to smell. Formula 1 uses peppermint and apearmint essential oils. Formula 2 uses rosemary, sage, lemon and peppermint. Formula 3 uses lemon and spearmint.

3. Prepare the mouthwash bottle. Fill the bottle with 4 fluid oz. (or 120 ml) of purified water. As an alternative, you can mix the ingredients in a glass or mug.

4. Add the oils for Formula 1. To the water, add 2 drops of Peppermint and 2 drops of Spearmint essential oil. Add 1 tsp. (5 ml) of honey.

5. Add the oils for Formula 2. To the water, add 1 drop of rosemary, 1 of sage, 1 of lemon and 1 of peppermint essential oil. Add 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of honey.

6. Add the oils for Formula 3. To the water, add 2 drops of lemon and 2 drops of spearmint. Add 1 tsp. (5 ml) of honey.

7. Cap the bottle and shake well to mix ingredients. If using a glass or mug, stir well.

8. Rinse your mouth and spit out.
