Advantages Of Assisted Living For Seniors

Assisted living facilities are for people that need assistance with daily activities but wish to live independently without moving into a nursing home, which is more for people that need around-the-clock care. Assisted living facilities provide individual service plans for each person so that everyone receives the assistance they need to live on their own with some help.

Independence

Seniors that live in assisted living facilities have their own independence to come and go as they please. It is the same as living in their own home, but there are assistants to help with the needs that seniors may have. Seniors can leave to shop, eat out, visit friends and family, travel or go out for a walk.

Socializing

Assisted living facilities have commons areas where everyone can get together and play cards, other games or just relax and talk. These types of facilities have dining areas for meals if the seniors prefer to eat with friends. Family members can come to the assisted facility and use the commons areas with family members that live there as well.

Housekeeping

Many seniors cannot tend to the daily cleaning of keeping a home. In an assisted living facility, there are assistants that come to the apartment of the senior and perform cleaning duties that are no longer an easy chore for those that are aging. The duties might include vacuuming, hand dusting, doing dishes and the laundry.

Daily Personal Activities

Some seniors need help with daily activities such as bathing, grooming and dressing. Sometimes a person is disabled or weak and cannot perform these activities without help. Instead of having someone come to the home outside of the facility, an assistant will come to the apartment at the facility and help with brushing teeth, combing hair or give help to those that need help getting in and out of the bath. Assistants can help prepare meals if the person prefers to dine in their apartment instead of the common dining room.

Health Care

Some seniors experience memory lost or need daily medical treatments. Assisted living facilities have on-duty nurses that can dispense medication and help with many medical treatments recommended by the doctor. The senior still has independence, but they will have the medical care that they need without having to have someone come to the home from another organization.
