Anti Fungal Remedies

Fungal infections can occur in any part of the body, especially warm, moist areas, like between your toes, your scalp and nails. Depending on the particular strain, infected areas might have different appearances and symptoms ranging from itching to severe pain. While there are many over-the-counter medicines to cure fungal infections, a few anti-fungal home remedies may be equally effective.

Tea Tree Oil and Apple Cider Vinegar

You could apply tea tree oil, in the concentrated form or mixed with olive oil, to affected areas such as toenails. A thorough daily rubbing with a few drops of tea tree oil on the area can help promote healing and prevent further infection. Dabbing some cotton wool soaked in lavender and tea tree oils on the fungal infection at least three times a day will provide relief from the pain and irritation. Twice every day for about quarter of an hour, you could also soak the area in a tub with a mixture of equal parts of tepid water and apple cider vinegar. Afterwards, dry your the area properly by using a hair dryer to remove all the moisture.

Oregano and Rubbing Alcohol

Mix a couple of drops of oregano essential oil with one teaspoon olive oil and rub this mixture on the affected region every day for about three weeks. With its potent anti fungal characteristics, oregano helps destroy the fungus and provides relief from the symptoms of infection. Every household should have some rubbing alcohol for medical emergencies. Use a tablespoon of this to soak the infected area for 20 minutes, twice a day until the fungus disappears. For best results, perform this routine once in the morning and once just before bedtime. Carefully dry the area with either a hair dryer or extra-absorbent towels.

Other Home Remedies

You could rub or soak the affected area with mouthwash or 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution for 20 minutes, two times a day. The antiseptic qualities of both these solutions helps eliminate the fungus.

General Measures

Make sure you maintain proper personal hygiene if you or a family member is suffering from any fungal infection. In case of superficial infection, take care to keep the affected area dry at all times, especially after application of a wet remedy. Avoid contact with other parts of your body or others' bodies. Try to keep your contaminated clothes, towels, sheets separate from the rest of the family's laundry and use disinfectant soap and hot water to clean them.
