Use A Soapstone Diffuser

Diffusers are used to evaporate fragrant essential oils.

Soapstone diffusers provide an excellent way for dispersing the fragrance of essential oils. These items are available in different designs, but all have a small basin at the top and an open area in the base. The upper area contains drops of the fragrant oils while the lower area holds a heat source. The heat usually comes from a tealight candle, and water is initially placed in the basin at the top to regulate the temperature of the diffuser and prevent the oil from igniting. Diffusers are a favorite tool for aromatherapy enthusiasts, but anyone can use them as a simple way to enjoy fragrance in the home.

Instructions

1. Place a small amount of room temperature water into the small basin at the top of the diffuser. Fill this area at least 1/2 to 2/3 full.

2. Light a tealight candle. Quickly but carefully place it into the recessed area at the base of the diffuser. The flame of the candle will begin to warm the water in the basin above.

3. Pour several drops (about five) of your chosen essential oil into the water at the top of the diffuser. Within one minute, you should begin to smell the fragrance of the oil. Use more or less oil according to your preference.

4. Remain near the soapstone diffuser to monitor it while it is in use. As the tealight burns, the water above will evaporate. Add more water as needed.

5. Extinguish the tealight candle when you are finished with your aromatherapy session. It isn't necessary to allow the tealight to burn out completely on its own. The fragrance can remain noticeable for an hour or more following the use of a soapstone diffuser.
