Laugh Without Anyone Noticing

The temptation to laugh always becomes unbearable when you know that it's completely inappropriate for the situation. Give yourself a break, and use some techniques that will allow you to indulge in your laugh without revealing it to the whole world.

Instructions

1. Bow your head down so that you partially hide your face from view. Let your hair fall over your face if you have long hair, and use it to cover your mouth. Keep your eyes focused down on the floor so you don't reveal any laughter lines or meet anybody else's gaze.

2. Stick your tongue out slightly, and touch it to your upper lip. This will act as a barrier to "smother" your laugh and make it sound more like an involuntary breath. Intake air through your nose instead of your mouth, and keep your tongue out.

3. Hold your breath, and let yourself laugh inside so that it makes a noise like a clicking sound that nobody will recognize as a giggle. Push down the heaving motion to your stomach that your body normally makes with the chest, and concentrate on moving your stomach muscles to stifle the laugh.

4. Exhale slowly and cover up any escaping noise by turning it into a cough or a sneeze. Breathe in and out again slowly until you have regained control, and focus your mind to imagine that you are laughing without actually making the action. Flare your nostrils if it helps calm your body.

5. Turn and walk away at the first available opportunity without drawing attention to yourself. If you suppress immense laughter for any period of time, your eyes and nose will water, and you'll get a pain in your stomach or side. The longer you laugh silently, the more likely a laugh will burst out and draw more attention to you than if you had laughed aloud in the first place.
