Recover From A Lobotomy

Recover From a Lobotomy

A lobotomy is a type of psycho-surgical treatment that was first practiced in 1889. It was intended for patients suffering from severe mental illnesses which could not be treated with the options available at the time. This psycho-surgery involved using instruments, in some cases an ice pick, to destroy the pre-frontal lobe of the brain. Early practitioners of lobotomies promoted it as a treatment for patients in an asylum. As you recover from a lobotomy, you will need to follow some basic steps, as well as your doctor's advice, in order to heal properly.

Instructions

Recover from a Lobotomy

1. Fill any prescription your doctor has written for you immediately. You may want to have a friend or relative do this for you since you will be incapacitated. Take your medication as prescribed and on schedule.

2. Spend as much time resting in your bed as possible. Make sure your head is in a comfortable position on comfortable support.

3. Avoid alcohol, illegal drugs and other substances that are not good for you. They may be even more hazardous to your health at this time.

4. Be sure to have proper meals. Healthy food and lots of water will help strengthen the body and help it to obtain what it needs to fight against possible infection.

5. Follow your doctor's orders precisely. Do not skip anything he advises for your recovery. If you have any questions, call for clarification.

6. Move around slowly when you are ready to get up, do not to overdo it. Try walking around for a few minutes at a time at first, then increase gradually each day.

7. Have family members or trusted friends who know you well watch you carefully for any changes. If they notice disturbing behavior they should call your doctor immediately for advice.

8. Avoid strenuous activity while you recover. You may also want to avoid loud activity and crowds.

9. Be sure to follow up with your doctor as advised. Your doctor will want to see how you are healing and if the operation was a success, based on your expectations. Use the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and express any concerns.
