Use A Knee Immobilizer

Knee immobilizers are used to treat various knee conditions such as ligament injuries, strains, sprains and inflammation. A knee immobilizer is different from a brace in that it is intended to not only support the knee, but also to prevent the joint from bending. Knee braces, on the other hand, usually incorporate some sort of hinge system to allow for bending. Most models of knee immobilizers are simple to use, but it pays to know the proper way to put on the series of straps and bands in order to get the best results from it.

Instructions

1. Stretch out your leg in a horizontal position.

2. Place the immobilizer onto the leg, with the patella opening centered on your knee.

3. Start at the bottom and, working upward, fasten the closure straps. Take care not to put on the straps too tightly, as this will cut off the circulation to your leg.

4. Attach the patella cover over your knee.

5. Wear for a few minutes and practice getting around, whether it is with crutches, a wheelchair, or whatever other means your doctor has recommended. After doing this, make adjustments to the straps as necessary for the best comfort and fit.
