Medicaid Income Requirements For Oregon







Medicaid was designed to assist those with limited income seek medical care. Each states requirements for Medicaid vary in processing times; however each state must follow federal guidelines and state guidelines for each applicant. Medicaid requirements are based on income, age and citizenship. Some states offer lower cost medical insurance for those not eligible for Medicaid assistance.


Income Requirements:


An individual's income plays a big role in being eligible for Medicaid. Individuals who receive TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) are instantly approved for Medicaid assistance. The income requirements are based on an individual's gross pay--the amount prior to taxes being taken out of a paycheck. Included in the income requirements are out-of-pocket expenses and living expenses. The out-of-pocket and living expenses include the amount paid for shelter and food. Cable and Internet are not considered a necessity to survive, so therefore they are not generally considered when seeking Medicaid assistance.


Income Guidelines:


Each individual who applies income will need to be fall under that state's income guidelines. It is based on the gross pay an individual brings home or based on SSI (Social Security Income). It is important to remember that those with a family size of one will not have the same income guideline as a family size of six.


What to Bring:


When you visit your local Medicaid Office it is important to have all the information that is required gathered for a smoother process. Some information that is required is proof of residency, bank statements, rental or mortgage receipts, proof of income, birth certificates and social security cards. This information will help prevent delays in the Medicaid application process, and assist in determining eligibility faster.


Age Requirements:


An individual's age plays a role in being eligible for Medicaid in Oregon. Children are eligible for Medicaid must meet certain guidelines as well; be younger than 19 and not pregnant. Low-income pregnant women may also be eligible for Medicaid for the duration of their pregnancy, including the follow-up visit to their doctor. Adults 19 and older also are eligible if they fall within the income guidelines. Adults 65 or older may also be eligible.


Citizenship Requirements:








Each state requires that proof of residency is submitted with the application or when they meet for an interview with a caseworker. Aliens are eligible as well, providing they also fall under the income guidelines for the state; aliens must also be able to prove whether they are documented or undocumented.
