Rehabilitation centers are where patients who have problems with addictions to drugs or alcohol go. In these facilities, patients are away from their families, living with other addicts and trying to piece their lives back together. By supporting a drug-rehab center, it's likely that you could make a difference in one of these people's lives.
Instructions
1. Volunteer at a local rehab center. By volunteering, you can make friends with some of the patients, while working to provide them with the help that they need.
2. Talk to an organization such as Goodwill and ask about providing books for the patients of the rehab center. If the center has books on diseases like alcoholism or addiction, the patient can get a better understanding of why they've made the decisions in their life and how they can begin to lead a new, healthier lifestyle. Books also provide patients with something to do in their downtime and can possibly bring about some insights.
3. Plan a program that will help to build the self-esteem and life skills of patients and submit your proposal to the center for review. Be sure to include what days the patients will be meeting with you, who will make presentations, their expertise and exactly how you plan to
4. Organize a support group that patients can attend after they have completed treatment. This will allow the patient to interact with others who are living the sober life and could ultimately help them maintain their sobriety.
5. Donate money to the rehab center. This will help the center purchase the materials it needs in order to help rehabilitate its patients. If the place is overcrowded, the money could possibly help build onto the facility or even purchase extra bed linens and food and sponsor activities.
6. Talk to the facility about organizing a get-together at an area park, so they can fish, have a picnic and have a good time in nature. Also determine whether the patient's families could attend.
7. Visit a local school and ask the principal or superintendent about having the children draw pictures for the patients at the center. These pictures could mean a lot to the patients who do not have close family members to visit them.
8. Hold a local bake sale in the city in order to raise money to help out the rehab center. Ask the facility about having the patients bake cookies, brownies, cakes, pies and other things in order to help them get involved.
