Install A Child Seat In A Ford Truck

Install your child's safety seat correctly for a safe ride.

Nationwide, children under the age of four must ride in a specially designed child safety seat. To facilitate correct safety seat installation, vehicles manufactured after May 2002 use an anchor and tether system. For vehicles produced before 2002, consult your owner's manual for installation instructions. Ensure that your child's safety seat is properly installed in the back seat of the vehicle to prevent serious harm during an accident.

Instructions

2002 and Older Models

1. Place the child seat in the desired seating position.

2. Identify the proper safety belt for the specific seat you are installing. For example, if you are placing a seat in the center seating position, use the center seat belt. Pull down on the seat belt if you are using a shoulder belt.

3. Insert the safety belt through the back section of the car seat.

4. Fasten the safety belt into its fastener in the truck with the belt buckle pointing up. The belt is fastened when you hear a clicking sound.

5. Place the front seats into the upright position.

6. Activate the automatic locking mode for that seat belt. This button can be found on top of the seat belt's plastic cover if your particular model has this feature.

2003 and Newer Models

7. Place the child seat in the desired seating position.

8. Identify the two lower anchors for that seat in the truck. There should be one anchor on each side of the seat.

9. Insert the safety seat tethers into the two latches.

10. Kneel on the car seat so that it sinks into the seat and tightens the tethers until they cannot tighten any further.
