Diy Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback is a form of therapy that uses electroencephalography, or EEG, which measures the brain's activity, to view the effect of certain behaviors on the brain. It is assumed that by being able to see the effect of certain behaviors on the brain, a person can learn to control and eventual modify those behaviors. This form of therapy is most often used for neurological disorders such as ADHD, autism and other behavioral disorders.

Instructions

1. Acquire an at home neurofeedback kit such as the ones sold by Play Attention. Because neurofeedback is a form of biofeedback that focuses on retraining the brain, it is essential that you understand observe, regulate and alter alpha waves in the brain. This will help you provide therapy to someone else. Keep in mind that even though you are doing the therapy at home it should still be done under a doctor's supervision. The Play Attention kits and others like them give you access to trained therapists who will help you.

2. Isolate negative behaviors that you want to alter and identify the corresponding alpha wave frequencies for the behaviors. For example, if a child with autism reacts violently to certain sounds, you will be able to "see" this reaction happening in the brain.

3. Create a system of "rewards" and "punishments" for the brain. This can be done via stimuli or a more complex process. For example, if you have a video game style neurofeedback kit, a reward might be access to another level or it could be something as simple as altering the pitch of certain sounds.

4. Train the brain by consistently providing rewards for good behaviors and positive alternatives to bad behaviors. Neurofeedback is based on the concept of neuroplasticity, in other words, the brain can be retrained. You can take advantage of this aspect to "think" your way into a new lifestyle.
