Foods To Avoid On A High Potassium Diet

If you are on a high-potassium diet then there are certain foods that should be avoided. People who suffer from high blood pressure, or are at risk for heart disease or stroke, should avoid foods and substances that interfere with Potassium absorption.

Licorice

Licorice can sap potassium from the body and should be avoided. This includes licorice candies and licorice teas.

High Sodium Foods

Foods high in sodium can elevate blood pressure levels and can nullify any benefits one can gain from following a high-potassium diet.

Low-Potassium Foods

People following a high-potassium diet should avoid filling their plates with low-potassium content foods. It is better to eat foods that are high in potassium to receive the maximum benefits,

Foods That are Diurectics

Foods that act like diuretics should be avoided because they can flush Potassium out of the body. These include foods like celery, asparagus and melons.

Check with Your Doctor

Before taking a food out of your diet it is always a good idea to check with your doctor first.
