How Does Disinfectant Work

Can't Kill All the Bugs


No matter how hard you try, you can't protect yourself from every microorganism that wants to live off of your bodily functions. Bacteria and microbes will constantly exist around you. In fact, they start growing on your body almost immediately after you are born. It's a good thing that many of them are harmless and can actually ward off the bad ones. However, there are times when you have more bad bugs on your body than it can handle. That's when disinfectants can come into play.








How Infections Start


Infections start off from microorganisms that want to live somewhere inside your body. Once those "bugs" get into your system (via an open sore, surgical incision or your mouth), they attach themselves to cells and start injecting toxins. Those toxins can wreck your body if the infections spread like wildfire. Microorganisms that break down tissue and cell walls can cause the spread even faster, leading to even worse infections like Salmonella or even the deadly Anthrax. Disinfectants can stop this from happening by attacking the bacteria.


The Power of Disinfectants


Oxidizing disinfectants are powerful. When oxidizing sprays come into contact with bacteria, they break down their cell walls and/or turn them into "positive" charges.


There are several other types of disinfectants, each with a specific target. Alcohol disinfectants are best on living tissue surfaces. Aldehydes, with key ingredients like Glutaraldehyde, are great for killing spore-based and fungal infections.


There are even varying forms of eco-friendly disinfectants. Any disinfectants with key ingredients like Paracetic Acid and Performic Acid are great for safely breaking down food particles to toxic-free residues.


Regularly apply disinfectant to surfaces that collect germs. But the most effective way to prevent infections is to wash your hands constantly and practice good general hygiene.
