Blood Vessel Disorders

Blood vessel disorders have many causes. Some are diseases in their own right, are the complications from surgery or a disease or are the result of an injury. Any pain or inflammation of veins or arteries should be reported to a doctor immediately since they can be fatal.

Aortic Dissection

Aortic dissection results from a tear in the aorta, the main artery in the body. This causes blood to go between the layers of the aorta. Aortic dissection is rare and can be fatal.

Carotid Artery Disease

Carotid artery disease is a blockage of the arteries leading to the brain. The brain does not get enough oxygen and the result can be a stroke.

Vasculitis

Vasculitis is inflamed blood vessels. It can attack any system in the body. Vasculitis is a complication resulting from several diseases.

Venous Diseases

Weak veins in the legs do not allow blood to flow correctly, causing inflammation, clotting and varicose veins.

Deep Vein Thrombosis

Deep vein thrombosis is a blood clot, usually in the legs, that is a result of orthopedic surgery or pelvic, abdominal or thoracic surgery.

Phlebitis

Phlebitis is inflammation and clotting in a surface vein.

It can be cause by an injury, varicose veins or by intravenous injections.
