Biofeedback, a medical practice that teaches participants relax, has helped patients with chronic pain, migraines and other conditions. Monitors are hooked up to various parts of the body to monitor heart rates, respiration, skin temperature and perspiration. Participants are then asked to change their physiology (lower their heart rate, for example) and receive instant feedback from the machines to track their success.

1. See a certified biofeedback technician for the best results. A biofeedback technician may also be a physical therapist, a physician, a psychologist, a counselor or may work in another field. Certified biofeedback technicians know read the machines and can recommend physical and mental exercises so you can gain from biofeedback.








2. Do the exercises, relaxation techniques or change your lifestyle according to what your technician recommends, or you will not see results. In addition, you must plan on continuing appointments with your biofeedback technician so you can see if biofeedback is actually working for you.


3. Accept responsibility for your health. Understand that biofeedback can help you change your health, but only if you're willing to do what your technician recommends and take responsibility for past health mistakes you might have made.
