Foods With Low Carbs

Low carb diets are quite popular today. They seem to be a way to diet for weight loss without feeling hungry, plus it takes all of the simple carbohydrates out of the equation, which is much better for your health. A low carb diet is also excellent for anyone with a diabetic condition, as it is the simple carbs that cause high blood sugar.








Protein


Any type of meat, fish or fowl would be listed under the heading of low carb; but, don't forget eggs which are versatile and low carb.


Vegetables


Except for starchy vegetables such as corn, beets and potatoes, almost all vegetables are allowed on a low carb diet.


Fruit


Many fruits are high in sugar and cannot be considered low carb. However, there are plenty to choose from that are: melon, pear, lemon, lime, kiwi, plum, grapefruit, berries, apples, oranges and tangerines.


Dairy


Purchase low carb yogurt; most yogurts in the grocery dairy section are high in carbohydrates due to the amount of sugar in them. Certain cheeses are also acceptable, such as Swiss, gouda and mozzarella. Sour cream is another dairy product low in carbs.


Fats


Extra virgin olive oil is healthful and low in carbohydrates, as is butter. Almost all oils are low carb, but not all are healthful choices.
