Home Remedy For Mosquito Stings & Welts

Their stings itch. You welt up quickly after they bite you. They are mosquitoes and they not only cause you to itch, they carry diseases as well. Only the female mosquitoes bite and when they do, you feel it immediately. Over-the-counter sprays and creams offer some relief. You don't have to keep buying itch cremes and other medicines. Some items you may already have at home can bring some relief to the bite from a mosquito.


Lavender Essential Oil


Use a cotton ball to apply a teaspoon of lavender essential oil to the mosquito bite. Lavender essential oil is a disinfectant and will bring down the welt. Try to apply the oil immediately after the sting. Reapply the oil after you take a bath or shower as a follow up treatment.


Ice Packs


To cool off the mosquito sting, place two ice cubes in a paper towel or sandwich bag and apply the ice to the sting. Keep the ice cubes on the welt until the swelling goes down.


Table Salt


Mix 1 tbsp. of table salt and ½ tbsp. of cold water in a bowl. Stir the salt mixture into a paste and apply it to the mosquito bite. Reapply as needed. The table salt will cool the bite and bring down the swelling.


Baking Soda and Water


Fill a drinking glass with cold water and add 1 tsp. of baking soda. Stir the mixture well to dissolve the baking soda. Dip a cloth or towel into the solution and apply it to the mosquito bite for 20 minutes.


Epsom Salt


Fill a pot with hot water and add 1 tbsp. of Epsom salt. Stir the mixture and let it cool in your refrigerator. Dip a cloth or towel into the Epsom salt solution and apply the mixture to the mosquito bite for 20 minutes.


Tums Tablets


Crush six Tums tablets in a small bowl and add 3 tsp. of cold water. Stir the mixture into a paste and apply it to the mosquito bite. Let the Tums mixture sit for 20 minutes. Reapply as needed. If you don't have any Tums tablets in your home, aspirin can be substituted.


Chlorine Bleach








Use a cotton ball to apply 1 tsp. of chlorine bleach to the mosquito bite. The bleach will cool the bite and bring a stop to the itching.








Deodorant


If you can't or don't have time to make a mixture, rub deodorant on the mosquito bite for instant relief.
