Herbal Remedies For Asthma

Herbal Remedies for Asthma

Asthma attacks can be frightening. The causes of asthma are often unknown but it may be hereditary, although allergies and adrenal disorders can be involved. Some herbal remedies for asthma may help in addition to treatments recommended by your physician.

Antihistamine

German chamomile (Matricaria recutita) tea can be consumed two to three times a day. This very gentle antihistamine may help prevent attacks.

Decongestant

Elderberry in the form of Sambucol lozenges or a thick syrup can relieve nasal congestion and open passages that may become blocked in asthma attacks.

Phlegm

Taking a tincture made from Ipecacuanha as directed on the label can reduce the overproduction of phlegm.

Air Pollution

To reduce the inflammation caused by chemicals, dust or smoke, take 500 to 1,000 milligram capsules or tablets of lobelia three times a day for no longer than two weeks. (Do not give lobelia to children under the age of twelve.)

Allergies

Scutellaria capsules in a 1,000 to 2,000 milligram strength taken three times a day can help prevent allergic reactions. Do not take this herb if you have diarrhea.

Antispasmodic

Asmatica (Tylophora indica) capsules taken in 400 milligram strength twice a day for two weeks, and then repeated in this pattern as long as symptoms persist may prevent acute attacks up to two weeks after use.
