Reasons For Stem Cell Research

Stem cell research holds great promise in the world of medicine and genetics. It is very controversial, but the research continues to move forward, not just in the United States but around the world. While there is some ideas as to where it can lead us, chances are there is more than we have dreamed of, especially when what is learned is applied to other areas of research that currently do not use stem cells.

Genetic Traits

The study of the stem cells can lead to a better understanding of genetics and unique human traits. Genetics are the nuances that make us all unique.

Drug Testing

Because stem cells can be made into any of the 200 types of cells in the human body, drugs can be tested on the types of cells that they should effect.

Degenerative Conditions

Diseases like Alzheimer's affect cells that do not grow back Stem cells could be a way to replace them.

Spinal Injury

There is already progress being made in spinal injuries. Stem cells may be able to help repair them.

Cardiac Repair

Cardiac repair also looks very promising. Because stem cells can become anything, they could become the unique cardiac cells needed to repair the heart.
