Identify Mercury Poisoning
1. Identify sources in your home or daily life from which mercury exposure could come. Internal exposure can come from consumption of fish. External exposure varies from breathing contaminated air to the disposal of mercury-containing objects such as fluorescent light bulbs.
2. Identify physical signs such as itching, burning or pain; usually in a concentrated area.
3. Look for any skin discolorations, especially in the fingers and toes. Mercury poisoning can often cause such areas to become a very dark pink. Also look for any areas that may be swelling, known as edema.
4. Check for other signs of poisoning like impairment of vision, serious lack of coordination, muscle weakness, mood swings, memory loss; numbness around the hands, feet or mouth.
5. Contact your physician immediately if you have any symptoms and get checked out.
