Hip Pain While Sitting
Many people experience various types of hip pain. In most cases, it is the result of some sort of injury. However, if you have not been injured, and you only experience hip pain while sitting, there may be other factors causing the pain.
Contoured Seating
When it was first created, contoured seating sounded like a good idea. As such, we now have contoured car seats, contoured office chairs and even contoured office seats. Although this type of seating was designed to be form-fitting to your bottom, in many cases, the contour exceeded the normal curvature of the human body. As a result, when seated, your body weight causes impingement on the nerves around your hips.
The Rear Wallet Problem
Over time, muscular imbalances can lead to hip pain. If you carry a wallet in one rear pocket, one hip is higher than the other when seated. This causes a muscular imbalance, which can eventually lead to hip pain while sitting.
Poor Seating Posture
If you slouch while you sit, you are compressing the weight around your hips, which can eventually lead to pain. Some people find that sitting on a stability ball encourages good seating posture, thereby eliminating hip pain.
