Dress For Your Body Type

Dressing to fit your body type is essential if you’re going to look good and feel good about the way you look. A shirt that is cut for a person with a certain body type won’t look the same on someone with a different body type. Aside from personal style preferences, you have to figure out dress in a manner that will accentuate your body's qualities.

Instructions

1. Look at your body type. Round bodies have wider rib cages and narrow hips. Inverted triangles have broad shoulders with narrow hips. Hourglass women have large busts and wide hips. Pear-shaped bodies have slim tops with wider bottoms. Diamond-shaped women have bodies with narrow shoulders and large thighs. Straight bodies have parts that are similar sizes in the top and bottom.

2. Accentuate the parts you want people to see first. If you’re a pear-shaped body type, wear tighter, fitted tops. Hourglass-shaped bodies have popular curves, so contoured pants and tops will show this off.

3. Minimize the attention given to the parts you don’t want to emphasize. If you’re pear-shaped, reduce the visibility of your hips with loose fabrics. Round women should show off their legs with shorter skirts.

4. Employ optical illusions in your wardrobe. Don’t wear a light color over a part of your body you’re insecure about. Using horizontal stripes will make you look wider, while vertical stripes, depending on the thickness and width between them, can make you look thinner.

5. Tailor your clothes to fit you better. If you don’t have the sewing ability to do this yourself, consult a tailor. This can be much less expensive than buying a whole new wardrobe. For example, diamond-shaped women would do well to let out the bottom hem of a jacket to make sure it doesn’t stretch over your midsection.
