Definitions Of Healing Crystals

Crystals have long been used for healing.

Ancient civilizations such as Greek, Roman and Arabic believed in the healing power of stones and crystals. In alternative or holistic medicine, therapists believe stones, gems and crystals vibrate at a certain frequency that matches and heals certain conditions and diseases. Some crystal healers believe the color of a gem or stone correlates directly with the seven chakras, as well as the 12 signs of the zodiac, thus making the color key in healing practices.

Violet Stones

Many believe crystals vibrate at the same frequency as certain diseases.

Purple or violet stones are said to be good for easing pain, agitation and stress. Crystal healers also use them to help boost concentration, mental awareness and clairvoyance, and seems to help sinus difficulties and headaches. Some examples are: amethyst, fluorite, kunzite, sugilite and labradorite.

White Stones

Crystal healers often put crystals and stones directly upon the body.

White stones are used to increase a general sense of well-being and improve self-esteem. White stones are generally placed under your pillow while you sleep. White crystals include rock quartz, zircon and diamond.

Blue Stones

Blue stones are associated with the fifth chakra.

Blue stones, such as lapis lazuli, sodalite and blue quartz, are often used for healing issues surrounding the throat. Healing crystals are often placed on the throat to remedy conditions such as tonsillitis, thyroid problems or hoarseness. Psychologically and spiritually, blue stones are connected with the fifth (throat) chakra, which governs self-expression, creativity and "speaking up."

Pink & Green Stones

Pink stones are associated with the fourth chakra.

The colors pink and green are associated with the fourth chakra, also known as the heart chakra. Because of this connection, jade, rose quartz, pink carnelian, and rhodochrosite are healing crystals used for matters of the heart, such as heartbreak, forgiveness, and compassion. In crystal healing, healers place a pink stone on the chest area or individuals wear a pink crystal pendant. Rose quartz is the most widely used of the pink healing crystals.

Yellow stones are often used for the third chakra.

Yellow stones are often used to treat stomach issues and conditions surrounding the third chakra, also known as the solar plexus chakra. Yellow healing crystals include citrine, yellow tourmaline, topaz, amber and tiger's eye (depending on hue). Psychological and spiritual issues addressed with yellow healing crystals include self-esteem, confidence, optimism and joy.
