Vaporizers are devices that help ease a number of respiratory problems by using a hot mist to add moisture to the air. Vaporizers make it easier for you to breathe by breaking up mucus in your chest and throat. There are a variety of vaporizers on the market, including ones with medicated pads. These devices are easy to use and small enough to fit in a variety of different spaces, including a small bedroom and even bathrooms.
Setting Up Your Vaporizer
Place the vaporizer on a sturdy table or countertop and make sure the surface is dry and free of any standing water. Do not place the vaporizer too close to curtains, bedding or other materials. Do not plug in the device yet. Next, locate some distilled water for the device. Tap water is not recommended because it may contain minerals and other additives that could damage your vaporizer. Distilled water is easily found at your local grocery store or retail center.
Adding Water and Scent Pads
Open the lid of your vaporizer. If your unit has a tray for medicated scent pads, open the tray and insert the pad. Only use scent pads recommended for your specific vaporizer. Next, fill the device to the "Water Line" (or similar wording) with distilled water. Close the lid and plug in the vaporizer.
Check the water in the device throughout the day or night. If the level is low, unplug, let the device cool by opening the lid and then add water slowly to the device.
If you have a waterless vaporizer, each scent pad lasts about seven hours. Check the unit at least every six hours to make sure it is operating properly.
Proper Care and Cleaning
Before cleaning the vaporizer, unplug the device and let it stand for at least 20 minutes before removing any water and cleaning. Change the water in the device daily. Then clean the inside of the device by wiping it with a clean cloth or paper towel. Do not submerge the vaporizer in water or use any cleaning chemicals in the device.
If the device is used daily, at least once every three days, clean it with a cloth soaked in 2 tsp. of hydrogen peroxide and tap water. Then wipe the inside of the unit with a damp cloth or paper towel. Read and follow any instructions that came with the vaporizer on cautions and hazards.
