Labiaplasty Reduction

Women many times have body issues related to weight, facial features or breast size, but more and more women are starting to feel insecure about the look of their vagina, particularly the labia (the outer "lips" of the vagina). Just as men can be insecure about penis size, lately women have been changing the size and length of their anatomy. However, the surgery is major and the healing process can be extremely painful.

What Should Labia Look Like?

The simple answer is that every labia is perfect. Many times men and women compare a partner or family member's labia to the airbrushed, retouched photos in men's magazines. The reality, however, is that labias are all different lengths and sizes naturally. The pout of a small labia is in fashion and chosen for photos, but many men and women find that the longer, wider or even slightly uneven lips of their partner's labia is just right for them.

So Why Reduce the Labia?

It is total personal preference. A woman can have an enlarged labia after childbirth and feel something about them is now too different and they want to look more like they used to. Some experience pain during intercourse due to the extra flesh. Others have been teased or criticized by someone who is inexperienced and unsophisticated and they feel they'd like to look "normal." Other women simply may want a smoother appearance in their panties and swimsuit bottoms. No matter what the reason, it is every women's right to determine what she'd like to look like and if she is willing to go through a simple surgery, but one that has an exceedinly painful healing process, it is her right to do so.

What Does the Surgery Involve?

Just like breast reduction or a tummy tuck, the short answer is that they cut the excess tissue off to the size requested. This is an outpatient procedure done under general anesthetic. The healing time is usually one or two weeks. The results can be visually dramatic and meet or surpass the expectations of a woman making that choice and who can overcome the pain of sutures in the vagina during healing. However, it is not surgery to be undertaken lightly. Imagine a small tear in your vaginal lips and how much that can hurt. Now multiply the painful area to the entire outer and inner lip area. All cosmetic procedures have risk and pain involved but if a woman is too uncomfortable by their labia, surgery might be the best answer.
