Electric wheelchairs can be a great aid for a person who is handicapped with either a permanent or temporary injury. These wheelchairs can be expensive, making it important to clean the wheelchair regularly. This will keep the chair free of debris and residue that can shorten the wheelchair's life of use. Combining a regular cleaning routine with an occasional lubrication routine will keep the wheelchair running and looking its best for years.
Instructions
1. Dampen a cleaning rag with warm water, and wipe down the exterior of the wheelchair as often as possible, preferably on a daily basis or after each day of use. Also examine and clean the wheels and axles, which often accumulate the most buildup.
2. Add three drops of liquid dish detergent to the damp rag when there is extra buildup on the chair that is not easily removed by water alone. The mild cleaner will assist in the cleaning process without harming the wheelchair parts.
3. Wipe the chair down with a dry cloth to prevent excess water from seeping into electronic components of the wheelchair.
4. Apply a coating of car wax to the exterior of the wheelchair every one to two months. Purchase any brand of car wax, and use a cleaning rag to apply as instructed on the wax container.
5. Spray a lubricant onto wheels, axles and ball bearings once per year, or as needed to keep the wheelchair functioning properly. If you hear any screeching of the wheels while in motion, it is time for a lubrication.
