Bithday Party Centerpiece Ideas

There are a wide variety of birthday centerpiece ideas that vary depending on the birthday theme as well as the age and gender of the birthday person. Escape the ordinary arrangements of flowers or simple balloons and create something entirely new and unique, like a bauble display or a lollipop garden.

Filled Balloons

Give ordinary balloons added character and charm by filling them with various objects. Small items like candy and glitter can be used to fill small balloons while larger balloons can hold roses, stuffed animals and other items.

Quick hands are all that is required to fill a balloon with small items. After partially inflating the balloon, the items are then quickly placed inside before it deflates. The balloon is then filled to capacity and tied.

Filling a balloon with large items requires special equipment. Many florists own this equipment to create balloon-wrapped floral arrangements. Inquire at a local florist for more information and to see if they are willing to help stuff other items in balloons.

Candy Bouquet

Creating a candy bouquet can provide a tasty and colorful centerpiece for the party and can double as a gift to the birthday girl. There are many types of candy bouquets that can be created, ranging from complex arrangements mixed with flowers to simple lollipop gardens.

To create a lollipop garden, fit small foam pieces into the bottom of several small cups or glasses, or in a single loaf pan. Top the foam piece with plastic wrap before adding small candies like butter mints to fill the cup or pan. When this is in place, add a variety of small and large lollipops by poking the sticks between the candies and into the foam. Use several large, rainbow-colored lollipops for large flowers while using small ones to compliment.

Theme-Based Centerpieces

Consider the theme when making a centerpiece for the table. If the theme is simply based on colors instead of an event, location or character, these ideas may not apply.

Themed parties can provide an endless ideas for centerpieces. A luau can have a palm tree, dancing hula girl, coconut and pineapple or other Hawaiian-based centerpiece. A goal post, baseball bat or assortment of sports balls would fit a sports themed party.

An older person may enjoy a centerpiece that provides insight into their past. A jukebox, disco ball, model of an old car and an assortment of family pictures.

Kids

Centerpieces at a kid's birthday party should be simple and entertaining. Consider lining the center of the table with a small army of stuffed or plastic animals or balloon shapes. Favorite toys or action figures may work. A large present could serve as a centerpiece and create anticipation for the birthday boy.

Homemade Arrangements

Simple, homemade crafts can serve as centerpieces and conversation pieces.

Create a styrofoam fountain by placing a painted foam ball on a weighted base. Insert sturdy wires that branch in a wide variety of directions. Paint smaller balls in a variety of colors and attach them to the end of the wires. This creates an intriguing array of color that can fit nearly any party theme.

A simple, homemade alternative to a flower arrangement is to cut pictures of flowers from magazines or print them from a computer. Laminate the pictures for extra durability before gluing them to craft sticks. Insert the sticks into a colored pot filled with small stones. Create an unusual, colorful arrangement.

Other arrangements can be made from stemmed glasses. The glasses can be filled with necklaces and other jewelry, water and floating candles, chocolates or glitter.
