Spot Levlen

Levlen is a type of birth control.

Levlen is a prescription brand birth control drug. The generic form of Levlen is levonorgestre ethinyl estradiol. Another brand name for this drug is Alesse. Levlen is used for preventing pregnancy. It is prescribed by a physician for a woman of child-bearing age. As a combination birth control pill, Levlen both prevents ovulation and alters the formation of cervical mucus which causes a change in the lining of the uterus that is inhospitable to an embryo. Levlen does this through synthetic formations of naturally occurring hormones progesterone and estrogen. Learn read the label correctly to make sure you're taking the right medication.

Instructions

1. Pick up the box or pill bottle which you believe contains the prescription drug Levlen. Examine the label on the box or bottle to confirm that it is indeed, Levlen or the generic form of Levlen and not another drug.

2. Locate the pharmacy name and address where you had the prescription filled which appears at the top left corner of the prescription drug label which is either pasted flat on the side of a box of pills or flattened around the outer edge of a bottle of pills. Note the prescription number for your individual prescription just beneath the pharmacy address and just above your name and address.

3. Scroll past the one to two sentence description of take the drug and look for a line that lists the name of the drug followed by the strength of drug contained in each pill, tablet or capsule.

4. Verify that the drug name line reads "Levlen xxmg pills" or "levonorgestre ethinyl estradiol xxmg pills." (The "xx" stands for the milligram amount, such as 50mg.)

5. Confirm that you are reading the correct line by looking for the terms "QTY" and "MRG" beneath the drug name line. If you have any questions about the drug, call the phone number listed at the top right of the label and ask to speak to a pharmacist about your question. If the prescription label has any other drug name other than those mentioned above or has another individual's name printed on it, do not take the medication.
