Plavix is a prescription drug that is used after a person has a heart attack or stroke to prevent the formation of blood clots. The main purpose is to prevent the blood from clotting. As with most medications, there are several side effects, both minor and serious.
Minor Side Effects
Stomach pain is a common side effect. Plavix may also cause a sore throat, runny or stuffy nose.
Serious Side Effects
Chest pain, tingling or numbness on one side of the body, or sudden headaches are possible. These serious side effects should be reported to your health care provider immediately.
Serious Digestive Side Effects
Bloody or black stools may occur. In addition, vomit that looks like coffee grounds or that is bloody may be an indication of a serious side effect of Plavix; contact your physician immediately.
Other Serious Side Effects
Confusion, vision problems, nosebleeds, pale skin, easy bruising and changes in the frequency of urination are serious side effects of Plavix that should be reported to your doctor.
