Ayurvedic Treatments For Dark Under Eye Circles

While dark circles under your eyes may be due in part to heredity, you still may be able to reduce the appearance of these dark circles by using traditional Ayurvedic techniques. By making a few simple changes in your diet, lifestyle and beauty regimen, you can minimize the tired appearance that dark under-eye circles can give.

Diet

Drinking eight glasses of water per day, and even more than that in the summer. Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, too. Try to eat one fruit or vegetable of each color of the rainbow every day.

Herbal Supplements

Herbal supplements designed with Ayurvedic properties to detox and cleanse the body may lessen the appearance of dark circles. As of October 2009, you can buy a kit with these pills and some eye cream online for about $22.

Compresses

By alternating hot and cold compresses on your eyes every five to 10 minutes, you may get some relief. In addition, you can dip cotton balls or cotton facial pads in ice water and let them sit on your eyes for 10 minutes.

Ayurvedic Paste

Make a paste by blending equal parts ginseng, papaya, neem, mint and Withania Somniferra with sandalwood and almond oils. You also can add aloe vera gel to the paste. Apply it around your eye area, and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes.

Other Remedies

Let the following items sit on your eye area for 15 minutes: cucumber slices, cotton pads dipped in cucumber juice or rosewater, equal parts tomato and lime juice, or grated potato. You also can massage almond oil gently around your eye area each night before you go to bed, with results being visible within two weeks.
