Pick Low Carb Vegetables

Carbohydrates are an important part of a healthy diet, but eating too many carbs can cause your blood sugar to rise and your body to gain weight. If you are interested in restricting the amount of carbohydrates that you eat, then you need to learn which vegetables are naturally low in carbs.


Instructions


1. Learn which vegetables are high in carbohydrates. Generally, if the vegetable grows underground, it will be high in carbohydrates. For example, potatoes and carrots are both high in carbs and should be avoided when you are on a low carb diet.


2. Add some sprouts to your diet. All sprouts are low in carbs. Sprouts make a great topper for salads and a great addition to wraps. Some of the easiest sprouts to find in a supermarket are radish sprouts, alfalfa sprouts and bean sprouts.








3. Create a salad of greens. Greens are both low in carbs and high in nutrients. The best way to eat them is fresh. If you are interested in adding greens to your diet, mix things up by sampling a variety of greens, including lettuce, chard, kale, spinach and collard greens.


4. Spice things up with fresh herbs. Herbs are naturally low in carbs so use them liberally when creating low carb dishes. Try a variety of herbs, including chives, parsley, thyme, rosemary and sage. If you want to explore new tastes, try using ethnic herbs and herb mixes.


5. Eat from the relish plate. Most of the vegetables found on a relish plate are low in carbs. For example, radishes, celery sticks, broccoli and cauliflower are all low in carbs.
