Deal With Period Cramps
Some women are so lucky. They pass through their period each and every month with minimal cramping and PMS symptoms. For others, there is no such luck. If you suffer for a few days every month, there are some great methods to help you
Instructions
1. Exercise. While it may seem like the last thing in the world you want to do when dealing with period cramps, getting your body moving helps to release toxins, reduce inflammation, increase flexibility and relieve pain. Any form of exercise will do wonders, so try swimming, a gentle walk, yoga or riding a bike.
2. Drink a soothing cup of herbal tea to help deal with the pain. Traditional teas used for menstrual cramping include catnip, chamomile, saffron, raspberry, mint and blackberry. Simply pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 to 2 tsp. of dried herbs and steep for 5 or 10 minutes. Drink 2 or 3 times daily.
3. Get things heated up to help relieve pain during your period. A hot bath or a hot water bottle placed on your lower abdomen or low back will help to settle things down and relieve cramping.
4. Double up your calcium about a week before your period and continue until the end of your period. Studies have shown that calcium, which helps the body to maintain muscle tone, also helps to prevent menstrual cramping. So, bump it up to 800 to 1000 mg each day before and during menstruation.
5. Increase your intake of magnesium as well, a mineral which helps your body to absorb the extra calcium you are taking. It is best to get magnesium through food sources, such as tofu, beans, whole wheat, fish, fresh raw veggies and nuts.
