A ruptured eye, also called a ruptured eye globe, is a tear in the surface of the eyeball. Ruptured eyes can be a serious condition, as severe pain and loss of vision can result. There are many causes of a ruptured eye but the most common are sports injuries. Taking precautions to ensure that infection does not result due to the rupture is necessary. The best advice is to see your physician, as the condition can be severe and antibiotics may be required to prevent infection.
Instructions
1. Wash the eye with a saline solution. If saline solution is unavailable, use tap water. Turn the tap water to warm and turn on, with the pressure low, and lay your head underneath the water with it rinsing your eye. Dab the eye dry with a clean clothe.
2. Cover the ruptured eye with an eye patch or shield. Be sure not to put pressure on the eye.
3. Visit your doctor. Your doctor may recommend antibiotic, pain medications and surgery if the damage is severe. Your doctor may also require blood tests, depending on the injury or cause of the rupture.
